RACHEL WINS FIRST OPEN BADMINTON TITLE

Stoneyhill Primary pupil Rachel Cameron celebrated winning her first open singles title at the U12 Derek Sim Memorial Tournament held at Prestwick Tennis and Badminton Centre.

Mid & East Primary School champion Rachel Cameron won the girls singles title with a superb 2 set win 21-10 24-22 over Borders player Kiera Waddell ranked 4 in Scotland.

Rachel also reached the girls doubles final with partner Lauren Page (Edinburgh) where they marginally lost out to Borders duo Molly Macdonald and Keira Waddell 21/16.

In her third final of the day she teamed up with Edinburgh’s Nairn Ross just to miss out on a second title losing a nail biting final 22-20 against Alexander McGarrie (Lanarkshire) and Ruth Flockhart (Renfrew).

In the U12 Boys Doubles James Guckian and John Arbuckle (North Berwick) won the ‘B’ final 21-12 21-9 against Ninian Grant and Dion Trafford from the Borders.

In the U15 event Longniddry’s Basia Grodynska won the girls doubles title with Ciara Torrance (Prestwick) beating Sophie Law (Carnoustie) and Lauren Middleton (Monifieth) 21/13
