Ross HS win the East Midlothian Football Association Knock Out Shield.
Newbattle HS, 0 - 1
1st half saw Ross HS press forward with Ryan Dalrymple coming close with a header.
Sean Brown was on fine form making good use of his possession, firing cross after cross towards the Newbattle HS goal mouth.
The second half continued in a similar vein, until Macauley Woodcock opened his account with an exceptional free kick from 35yds, landing home in the top let hand corner, 4 min into second half.
Dalkeith HS 1 – 2
The East Midlothian Under 14’s league winners were next up for the mighty Ross. They showed their skill, experience, and capitalised on some poor defending by Ross, opening the scoring early in the second half. This early goal spurred the Ross lads on, they redoubled their efforts for the equaliser. Following some quick reshuffling of the team, James Brownlee took advantage of a poor Dalkeith clearance, and fired a powerful cross over to Sean Brown, who collected the ball, drove to the byline, before crossing to Ben Bathgate, who duly headed the goal home.
With the scoreline sitting at 1-1, an intense game followed with both teams fighting for superiority.
With injury time looming, Ross won a hard fought corner. Lewis Whitson whipped in a powerful ball, which made contact with 1st match hero Woodcock, who throw his whole body at the cross.
With only minutes remaining, Ross HS were ahead by one. With many people biting their nails, and praying for time, the game drew on. Dalkeith HS pushed forward, only to be spurned by rock steady Ross defence.
Ross HS were duly awarded the match, and with it the East Midlothian FA Un. 14s Shield. The Ross lads can be very proud of their achievement, as too can coaches Jamie Kinross and Alistair Main. Undefeated on the day, the only team to defeat the League Champions Dalkeith HS this season, and returning the East Midlothian FA Un. 14s Shield to Tranent for the first time since 2007.
Everyone is looking forward to the remaining league game of the season against Dalkeith HS in Tranent later in May.
