LONGNIDDRY DUO TRIUMPH
With the Commonwealth Games on the horizon in Glasgow, two county badminton stars continued their fine start to the year on Sunday 2nd February with wins at the Scottish National Championships in Perth. Longniddry’s Robert Blair and Paul van Rietvelde teamed up in the men’s doubles where they reached the final to play second seeds Martin Campbell and Patrick McHugh.The county duo dropped their first set 19/21 but rallied to win the second and third set 21/9 21/18to win the national men’s doubles title.There was further success for Blair in the mixed doubles when he teamed up with Imogen Bankierto win a very tight three set final against Van Rietvelde and partner Jillie Cooper.
