A disability bowling event organised by East Lothian Council in memory of Bob Moffat.
The Bob Moffat Memorial Bowling Event, now in its 21st year, is organised by East Lothian Council in memory of the late Bob Moffat who introduced the game of bowls to so many people with disabilities in the district. A keen bowler all his life, Bob started up the Prestonpans Disabled Bowling Club after he suffered a stroke in 1986. The club became so popular that extra bowling time was organised at Whitecraig and from this a second club was started.
Bob not only taught bowls to people with physical disabilities but also helped develop an interest amongst adults with learning difficulties at Tynebank Adult Training Centre in Haddington and Cherry Road Adult Training Centre in Bonnyrigg.
Bob’s greatest wish was to have a competition at which people with physical difficulties and people with learning difficulties could compete together and this event sees that ambition realised.
Played on 30’ carpets, the event comprises a round robin competition for all, leading to quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final, involving competitors from all over the Lothians, Fife and further afield.
The next event will be held on Sunday, 4 November 2012 at Meadowmill Sports Centre, near Tranent.
