Spike Island 5km and 10km Run and the Spike Island Treasure Fun Run
West Barns Primary School Parent Council invite you to our inaugural running Festival - the Spike Island Trail Run! The 10K, 5K & 1.6K kids fun run are around one of East Lothian's most iconic beaches, estuaries & coastlines. Each of the trail run's navigate their way through the surrounding farmland to the mouth of the Tyne Estuary and terrain varies from sandy paths to forest tracks.The Kid’s Fun run will take place first & is a great warm up for anyone doing the 5 or 10k!
All proceeds go to raising funds for West Barns Primary School Parent Council.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Race Numbers will be issued at registration.
Health and Safety
Clear route maps will be posted at the registration desks for all routes. Maps will be available on our Facebook page one week prior (West Barns Primary School Parent Council). You will be running on some uneven surfaces for example on the tracks through woods. Runners should come adequately prepared for uneven, gravel or mud surfaces.
All routes are extensively marked and well marshalled. Safety is paramount and we expect runners to follow the advice of marshals at all times & take all reasonable precaution.
The wearing of earphones is strictly prohibited.
Every competitor is asked to confirm their safe arrival back at the finish desk even if they have not been able to complete the course.
First Aid
We will have First Aid available.
PARKING
There will be parking available at Hedderwick Hill Farm Stables, please drive slowly & park with consideration where directed.
FACILITIES
Toilet facilities are at Hedderwick Hill Farm Stables and at Foxlake Adventures. The organisers accept no responsibility for loss or damage of clothing or equipment.
RACE START AND FINISH
All races start and finish at Hedderwick Hill Farm Stables. Timing devices are not issued for this event. Finish times will be issued at the end of the event (& online). Should an accurate time be required runners should wear their own stopwatch.
THE COURSE
The 5k & 10k routes navigate their way through the surrounding farmland to the mouth of the Tyne Estuary and terrain varies from sandy paths to forest tracks. The 10km is two circuits of the 5k route.
The 1.6k treasure route loops through the surrounding farmland starting & finishing at the same place. Watch out for the Salty Sea Dog on the way around, he may spray you with his water gun!
WATER
Water stations will be situated at the half way point for the 10K run and at the finish point.
SPECTATOR REFRESHMENTS
The course will run past our wonderful friends & Sponsors, Foxlake Adventures. You can be assured of a proper coffee or bacon roll. Foxlake Adventures has an awesome wakeboarding park, Foxfall Ropes Course, Cafe and children's wooden outdoor play area if you are making a day of it.
WHY?
The Spike Island Trail Run has come from the children's Health Committee and a few keen parents from West Barns Primary School. The Committee are keen to get the whole school fit and each Friday we run for gold (1 mile = 1.6K). We are hoping cumulatively to have run the same distance as the circumference of Scotland by the end of June 2016. May's event will count towards our team challenge & is in the name of fitness and fun! We hope everyone will enter into the spirit of it!

DIRECTIONS: Hedderwick Hill Farm Stables are situated just off the A1087, on the left as you drive towards West Barns from the Beltonford Roundabout If you pass the road end for East Links Family Park you have gone too far! Keep a look out for the sign post for Hedderwick Hill Farm. Regular bus services pass our road end. Telephone First Bus on 08708 72 72 71 for more information.
