Amanda Martin of Pencaitland toppled the lot in the Derek Sim U12 Badminton Tournament in Kilmarnock when she won all three events. In the girls singles final Amanda beat Rachel Broadley of Haddington, and then joined forces with her to take the girls doubles title before partnering Euan Campbell in the mixed doubles. Euan Campbell had earlier also won the U12 boys doubles title with Andrew Evans of Midlothian.
In the U15 age group James Morgan of Longniddry was showing his ability with the shuttle as he won the singles final against Alastair Campbell of Dunbar, and overcame Alastair in the mixed doubles partnering Jyoti Arbuckle of North Berwick, while Alastair played with Julie Eve from Renfrewshire. Jyoti’s brother John partnering Naomi Branford of West Lothian, finished third in mixed.
James reached his third final playing with Peter Sawkins of Edinburgh for the first time in the boys doubles and comfortably won all his games including a 21/9 21/7 final against Danny Robson and Calum Strang of Lanarkshire.
U15 Jyoti Arbuckle moved up to the U18 girls doubles to partner Longniddry’s Laura Moos and they just missed out on gold when they just lost out 21/19 in the final. Laura took second place in the singles and the mixed, partnering Lewis Campbell of Dunbar.
