Gemma Wright wins double at East Lothian Junior Badminton Open
GEMMA WINS DOUBLE AT EAST LOTHIAN OPEN
Edinburgh’s Gemma Wright won a title double at the recent U14 East Lothian Junior Badminton Championships held at Meadowmill Sports Centre. Wright beat Shona Whillans (Longniddry) 21/10 21/14 in the final of the girls singles before the pair teamed up to take the doubles title comfortably with a 21/8 21/5 victory against local players Eloise Morris and Basia Grodynska both Longniddry.
In the boys singles Edinburgh’s Joe Parkinson fought his way through the draw just easing through Glen Lewington 21/18 19/21 22/20 to reach the final where he was up against top seed and local player Cameron Law (North Berwick). Parkinson came through a close fought three set match to win the singles title 16/2121/19 21/14. Law reached his second final of the day in the boys doubles with regular partner Rory Allardyce (Edinburgh) and dominated the final with a fine win 21/13 21/17 against Lothian duo Euan Kennedy and Hari Rittoo.
East Lothian Development Officer Christine Black expressed her thanks to East Lothian Council for their continuing support and thanked both Lynda Lamb for assisting on the day and Roger Parry for all his support and organisation to run such a successful tournament.
