Healthy activities at MGS
The annual MGS health day took place on Thursday 31st May and after extensive evaluation of the last 2 years it adopted a slightly different format than before. S1 pupils had a suspended timetable for the day and instead took part in a number of alternative health based activity and education sessions.
The practical activities they got to sample were archery, judo, trampolining, zumba. The more educational based workshops were smoking and drugs awareness, CPR and community education. In addition they took part in some healthy cooking and a relaxation and massage session as well as getting a taste of life in the navy. The day was a huge success and the classes will follow up on the themes visited during their PSE lessons. The judo in particular was a huge hit, with word spreading through the school and staff coming along during free periods to get a glimpse of Mark Preston from Destination Judo at work.
A special mention should also go to Kirsty Hogg and Catriona Morton, two former pupils from the school who delivered the trampolining workshop, enthralling pupils with tales of their own experiences of International gymnastics and trampolining competitions.
