Rugby helps bridge the gap between Kings Meadow and Haddington Infants School
As the summer term comes around P3 pupils at Haddington Infant School begin to look forward to taking the next step in their education by moving to Kings Meadow PS in August. Being “the wee ones” again is a little bit scary so both schools do all they can to ease the transition process. Active Schools contribute to this by holding a Rugby Festival and series of taster sessions for P3 at Haddington Infants and their P4 peers at Kings Meadow.
The Rugby Development Officer from Haddington RFC, Scott Marnoch, delivers this programme and this year the event was as successful and popular as it was last year. For the festival pupils were split into 8 different groups made up of a mix of P3 and P4 pupils and named after a country taking part in the Olympic Games. During the festival the groups moved around different stations based on rugby skills and fitness challenges. Local club volunteers as well as Telford College students and Active Schools supported the festival with Scott leading it and delivering the preparatory taster sessions at the schools in the weeks before the event. All pupils were invited to join the mini section at the rugby club for the coming season.
