Sarah wins Double Glory!

East Lothian badminton player Sarah Brogan (George Heriots) enjoyed double success at the recent Scottish Schools U15 and U18 Age Group Singles and Doubles Championships held recently at Ravenscraig regional Sports Centre.

Sarah’s first title came in ladies singles where she fought hard at the semi final stage to pip Laura Moos in a very close three set match to set up a final against top seed Julie Eve (Glasgow School of Sport), which she won comfortably 21/11 21/18 to win her first title.

In her second final of the day she partnered Preston Lodge pupil Eloise Morris to clinch her second title against Julie Eve and Laura Moos (Preston Lodge).

In the boys Singles James Morgan (Preston Lodge) lost out in the early rounds to the eventual winner David Kong (Currie High) and Aberlady’s Ewan Mathieson reached the semi final where he lost out to top seed Nick Darcy- Evans in a tough three set match.

Mathieson and Morgan also reached the boys doubles final where they lost a close three sette to Calum Crangle( Largs Academy) and Alexander McGarrie (Lananrk Grammar).

In the U15 age group Dunbar Grammar pupil Alastair Campbell reached the final of the singles where he fought hard but just lost out to Monfieth High school pupil Kyle Middleton 19/21 21/16 21/16. North Berwick High School pupils James Guckian and John Arbuckle also both reached the quarter final stage of the boy’s singles.

Alastair Campbell got revenge in the boy’s doubles when he teamed up with James Guickan to win the boys doubles title against Calvin Chan (Glasgow School of Sport) and Kyle Middleton 21/14 21/15.

In the U15 girls singles Francesca Lang from Longniddry reached the semi final of the girl’s singles and won the doubles title comfortably with her regular partner Lauren Page (Craigmount High School).
