Double success for Amanda at the Victor West of Scotland Junior Badminton Championships.

Double delight for Amanda

East Lothian badminton player Amanda Martin (Pencaitland) enjoyed doubles success at the

Victor West of Scotland Junior Badminton Championships held recently at the Sir Craig Reedie Badminton Scotland Centre, Glasgow. In the U13 age group she reached 3 finals finishing runner up in the girl’s singles and winner in both girls and mixed doubles.  In the girls singles it was an all East Lothian final with Amanda up against Lois Turnbull from North Berwick. Lois was on form in the final taking the singles title in straight sets 21/12 21/18. In the girls doubles final Amanda teamed up with Jessica Robson to overcome North Berwick duo Lois Turnbull and Jess Rae to win her first title.

In her third final she teamed up with Gregor Ronan from Dunbar to reach the mixed doubles final where they won the first set 21/17 before injury meant retiral for their opposition Ian Campbell (Inverness)and Mary Kong (Edinburgh).

In the U13 Boys singles Gregor Ronan reached the semi-final stage and in the boys doubles Euan Campbell (Dunbar) and Andrew Evans (Midlothian) also reached the semi-final where they lost out in three sets to the eventual winners Ian Campbell and Tyler Smith (Duns).

In the U17 age group fourteen year old Rachel Cameron (Musselburgh) reached the semi-final of the girl’s singles losing out to the eventual winner Ciara Torrance (Prestwick).

In the girls doubles Shona Whillans (Longniddry) teamed up with Lauren Middleton (Dundee) while Rachel Cameron partnered Rachel Andrew (Edinburgh) and both pairs reached the semi-final stage.

In the mixed doubles Whillans teamed up with Calum Atterbury (Edinburgh) to beat top seeds Glen Lewington (Edinburgh) and Sarah Sidebottom (Rothesay)in the semi-finals but just lost out in the final 21/19 21/16 to Robbie Patterson (Eyemouth)and Caira Torrance.
