East Lothian Primary School Cross Country 2017
The 2017 East Lothian Primary school cross country was held on Monday 13th March at Meadowmill Sports Centre. A total of 16 primary schools attended with 185 athletes participating over 4 races.
The first race of the day was the Small schools girls’ race which was won in a time of 7m43s by Rudie Shearer (Yester PS) closely followed by Erin Hall (7m52s - MacMerry PS) in 2nd and Isla Kay (8m22s -Yester PS) in 3rd.
The next race up on the 1.2mile course was the Large schools girls’ race. With a comfortable win for the current UK under13 1500m record holder Katie Johnson in 6m 55s (Prestonpans PS) followed by Lucy Thomson (Dunbar PS) with a strong run of 7m15s and Maja Thomson (7m18s - Law PS) in 3rd.
The third race of the day was the first of the boy’s races to take to the course, the Small schools boys’ race. There was a close finish between Joe McPherson (Aberlady PS) in 7m01s and Finlay Milne (West Barns PS) with 2nd in a time of 7m02s. In third place with a strong finish was Colin Riley (Pencatland PS) in a time of 7m07s.
The final race of the day was the Large school boys. With Angus Wright (Law PS) winning with the fastest time of the day in 6m 18s. Callum Richards (Dunbar PS) in 2nd with 6m 24s and Innes Wright (Law PS) was 3rd in 6m 57s.
On complication of the races all schools waited in anticipation to hear the overall Team Results. After presentations for each race by Scottish Athletics Starter Barry Craighead the awaited team results were up. In the Small school results Yester Primary won with a strong 73points; Pencaitland PS in 2nd with 103points and Ormiston PS in 3rd with 115points.
