A record entry of over120 pupils travelled from all over the county to Meadowmill Sports Centre to compete in the Mid and East Lothian Secondary Schools Badminton Championships which took place on Tuesday 28th November.
MID AND EAST LOTHIAN SECONDARY SCHOOLS BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS
A record entry of over120 pupils travelled from all over the county to Meadowmill Sports Centre to compete in the Mid and East Lothian Secondary Schools Badminton Championships which took place on Tuesday 28th November.
All 6 Secondary Schools from East Lothian and three from Midlothian, Penicuik High, Lasswade High and Newbattle Community High School all had players representing their school at this prestigious event
East Lothian Schools dominated the tournament with Lois Turnbull from North Berwick High winning a treble - two U14 titles in girls’ singles and mixed doubles with partner Ben Riddle and her third title in the U16 girls doubles with her regular tournament partner Jess Rae.
There was also double titles for Ben Riddle and Harry Bent U14, Jack Riddle U16 and John Arbuckle U19 all North Berwick High school pupils.
Following this event selection will now take place for pupils to represent Mid & East Lothian Schools at the Scottish Schools National Championships, in March 2018 at Bells Sport Centre, Perth.
East Lothian Badminton Development Officer Christie Black would like to thank all the Sports Co-ordinators, volunteers, coaches and parents who assisted and supported the tournament and to all the players who provided some excellent badminton throughout the day.
