U16s Preston Lodge beat Glasgow Academy
Preston Lodge High School under 16's entered into the Scottish Schools main cup competition for the 1st time in 10 years having identified that there is a potentially strong team with the mixture of current under 16s and the undefeated under 15s.
The East Lothian school was drawn against The Glasgow Academy with the match to be played at home for PL, PLHS decided to play the match at the home of PLRFC 'The Pennypit' as a perfect illustration of the club and school working together to provide as positive a rugby experience as possible for the community.
The 1st half was described as 'rugby warfare' by one of the PL parents and it finished 0-0. Both teams had opportunities but PL probably edged the territory and possession stats after squandering a few chances to score.
The second half continued to be a hugely physical encounter but it was the Glasgow defence that was broken first after a series of forward rumbles the PL forwards crossed the line. PL scored another try before Glasgow hit back with one of their own. At this point the match was finally balanced but PL put together several phases before releasing the backs and scoring in the corner. It was only a try of the highest quality that was going to separate the teams and this was certainly it. Towards the end of the match PL scored again and Glasgow Academy touched down near the final whistle. Final Score 28 - 17
The match was played with the perfect competitive spirit and the large crowd were treated to a feast of physical bone crunching tackles, individual breaks and team tries. PL play The High School of Dundee in the next round.
