East Lothian Youngsters Shine in Scottish Primary Championships

The Scottish Schools Primary Badminton Championships took place in Perth, with a number of county representatives taking part. The Mid/East Lothian squad comprised of 11 boys and 6 girls who all performed well across both singles and doubles events.

In the girls singles Lois Turnbull of Law Primary school defeated the second seed from Lanark 21-12 in the semi final, before producing a superb performance in the final against Edinburgh’s Catherine Holland 21-15 to lift her first gold medal.

Lois and school doubles partner Jess Rae proved to be a formidable pair as they sailed through their pool games in the ‘A’ doubles event to lift the gold medals.

In the boys singles Gregor Ronan (Dunbar Primary) far surpassed his seeding to reach the final where he was up against Ian Campbell (Highland region) who proved too strong but the East Lothian youngster was delighted with his silver medal.

Haddington’s Rachel Broadley (Kings Meadow Primary) reached the ‘B’ girls singles final and, after a good all round performance, she was able to get her hands on the trophy.
